If you happened to be passing by the No.28 in Belper’s Market Place on the 2nd of July, you may have caught on earshot of a conversation like this:
‘Acrophobia? Isn’t that the fear of heights? Or Acrobats maybe? Speaking of heights, who’s at the top of this years most followed on Instagram list? Ronaldo or Messi? And what’s that poem that goes ‘half a league, half a league, half a league onwards?’
As trivial and light as these questions may seem, they were all part of the fun of Blue Box Belper Quiz Night fundraiser.
Hosted at the No.28, a communal building at the heart of Belper’s town square, the fundraiser opened its doors at 7 o’clock that evening to people from across Belper and its wider community.
After almost two years spent in lockdown due to COVID-19, the quiz night was a welcome event in the community and an opportunity for people to socialise and experience an enjoyable evening. Blue Box Belper volunteers worked hard to keep up a lively atmosphere for the night with music and hot drinks being provided. Blue Box’s Big Spring Raffle was drawn at this event and raised over £800 for the charity.
Of course, the highlight of the evening was the quiz. Led by Blue Box Chair of Trustees Tom Wyke, the quiz took participants in teams from general knowledge to more intriguing and humorous genres such as ‘study or phobia’ in which participants had to guess whether a word was a study or a phobia. With other genres in the quiz testing each teams knowledge of film, poetry, history and most difficult of them all, Instagram, Blue Box volunteers provided some food for thought with an array of homemade desserts.
The quiz champions were announced at the end of the evening as the team Go Sweden, new-commers to the Blue Box quiz night followed closely by the second place holders Madeira Magic. Other teams who participated include: Bish Bash Bosh, Where’s The Door and The Wooden Tops.
The event raised an additional £500 alongside the money raised from the raffle, all of which will go towards expanding Blue Box Belper’s work in their community.
